Initial contact from non-clients is through an email contact posted on this website. Please do not post personal information when making contact other than as the Contact feature provides, and do not include attachments or links in a Contact message. Please do not include within a Contact message any health, medical, or financial information about yourself or other persons. If no client relationship is agreed by the firm, your Contact message will be promptly deleted. The firm has clients directly or indirectly owned by persons located globally. If you wish to contact the firm about this privacy policy and notice and have a valid purpose, you may do so as indicated below.
For accepted clients, we collect data to provide legal services and be compensated for that. This includes sufficient information about an engagement before acceptance, name of authorized person/s for a client, client contact details and methods of communication (such as IP Address), and other personal information (“PI”) required to provide legal services to a client. Please do not send PI, whether sensitive or not, to the firm that is not required in order to provide legal services on an accepted engagement. We receive and use PI solely for purposes of providing services of JDLAW LLC. For accepted clients, we use personal information to providers used for business purposes, such as Google, Microsoft, and other software and communication services, our accountants, and other professional service providers, which are aware of the confidentiality required for handling PI. Service providers may employ what are called “Cookies” or “pixel tags” or other types of software when accessing the firm’s website or otherwise handling PI. The firm does not directly employ such technology to track your online movement or otherwise monitor how emails and other PI are used. You should be able to disable cookies at your discretion.
For those who submit Contact information through this website but do not become clients of the firm, the only PI of the inquirer is provided by the inquiring person and not at our request unless associated with consideration of a potential engagement which does not proceed. In these instances, we will not retain any such PI unless we have compelling reason to do so by applicable law. We treat discussions about accepting an engagement as subject to applicable attorney-client privilege to the extent legally applicable.
JDLAW LLC does not sell PI. JDLAW LLC does not share personal information with third parties, other than as described here in the reasonable and necessary provision of legal services.
The firm will keep Contact information and PI supplied by you as long as we have a legitimate interest in doing so. We will not keep information about you once an accepted engagement concludes for no longer than necessary as required by law or as required to complete an engagement and be compensated for our services. If you want the firm to inform you of what PI we have about you or to update or delete your PI, please Contact us by email.
We believe that all persons have important privacy rights, regardless of whether they are provided by law and regulation. These include the following about your PI:
The right to know what PI we hold about you.
The right to correct any PI about you that is not correct.
The right to have PI about you deleted from our records at your request (other than as law requires or to be paid fairly for services provided).
The right to restrict reasonably how your PI is processed by third parties we use for business purposes.
The right to have PI we hold about you transferred to another recipient.
The right to object to certain types of processing of your PI.
The right to know why we refuse any request about your PI if there is a dispute about this.
The right to communicate and consider with us any concern about your privacy at any time.
The right to withdraw your consent to our use of any of your PI.
We strive to protect the data, personal or not, held and used by JDLAW LLC. This includes attention to privacy settings allowed by our service providers and other measures known by us and reasonably available to preserve confidentiality and privacy of the firm and its clients. In providing legal services, we are protected and supported by the laws and ethics of the State of Ohio and the U.S. court system in preserving attorney-client privileges and limiting forced disclosure by attorneys of confidential matters.
If we are asked to transfer your PI across national boundaries, we will strive to comply with all applicable laws and regulations and to abide by any safeguards required in a particular instance. If for any reason you are not satisfied with how your PI was handled by us, you are free to communicate or complain to authorities with applicable jurisdiction about the matter.
In certain cases, you and we may agree to exchange information in a manner that requires use of a password. If this applies, you should keep your password to yourself and not share it with us, and it is your responsibility to keep your password safe and up to date.
Although we would like to be able to do so, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of data (including PI) that you disclose or transmit to us online, and we are not responsible for PI (including personally identifiable information or “PII”) that is stolen, destroyed, or inadvertently disclosed despite your or our efforts to prevent that.
We may update this Privacy Policy and Notice from time to time. As of the date of this Policy and Notice, about one third of the states of the United States have adopted a comprehensive personal data privacy statute, and there is no comprehensive federal personal data privacy code in place although federal privacy statutes cover certain sectoral information such as medical and financial information.
